iPad Case Review: Marware Eco-Vue for iPad

I wasn’t completely satisfied with the Apple iPad case even though it had been growing on me so I recently bought a Marware Eco-Vue case for my iPad. The case’s list price is higher than Apple’s case but at retail it’s at the same $40 price point.

The obvious comparison is that the Marware case seems to be worth the $40 price, unlike the Apple case which is over priced (IMO). Unlike my first impression when unpacking the Apple case my first impression when unpacking the Marware Eco-Vue was that it was a quality product.

The Eco-Vue is a leather folio style case. Opening up the box released a slight leather smell. Marware calls the material “eco-leather” which describes the tanning process. The eco-leather case has what seems to be just the right thickness to give it substance and protect the iPad. The interior has a nice suede feel to it.

The case does have a quality build feel to it. I’m a little concerned about the durability of the material that holds the iPad itself. It’s thin in places to allow iPad access. I seems sturdy enough but we’ll see for sure after a few months of sliding the iPad in and out.

One unique feature of the Marware Eco-Vue is the hand strap to help hold the iPad. I haven’t used it much as a hand strap but it makes a handy space to store a microfiber cloth the keep the screen clean.

There’s a suede tongue flap that slips over the iPad to hold it in place. It seems effective but I might consider adding some Velcro to make sure the iPad doesn’t work it’s way out of the case while be carried or used.

The case also has a handy flip out stand (shown next to the hand strap in the above picture). This prompts the iPad up at a nice angle for typing or viewing. I tend to move the iPad around a lot when using it this way. At first I found the Marware clumsy to move as the bracket would keep closing. But I finally got the hang of picking up and moving the iPad with one hand that also held the bracket open. I actually prefer it over the Apple case. It’s also sturdier than the Apple case.

Naturally there’s openings in all the right places for the speaker, button and ports. But like the Apple case the iPad needs to be removed before it can be put in the dock.

Another nice feature is the elastic strap to secure the case closed.

The Marware case has replaced the Apple case as what my iPad lives in. The only reason to go back to the Apple case is if I wanted a nice thin case.
