Plants vs. Zombies: The Perfect iPad Game & App

All right, it’s not news that Plants vs. Zombies is a popular game. But I didn’t play it on my iPod Touch (or anything else) so when I bought the $10 iPad app it would be completely new to me. The iPhone version is only $3 but the iPad version does include a little unique content. I haven’t played the iPhone version but I have to believe the experience is better on the larger iPad screen.

Plants vs. Zombies also shows off one of the main strengths of the iPad – the screen is a blank slate just waiting to be taken advantage of. The iPad version seems similar to the iPhone version but takes advantage of the larger screen.

The premise is simple, the zombies are attacking your house and you need to use the plants to fight them off. It’s a simplified tower defense game where less is more. The game is just hard enough to be interesting but never so hard as to be frustrating.

There’s also a wide variety of both plant and zombie types to keep things interesting. There’s also a nice selection of achievements to work through to help keep things interesting.

I’ve put in far too many hours already on this addictive game so I’ve certainly gotten my ten bucks worth. I’m not a hard core game by any definition. At most, I’m an occasional casual gamer so I expected to have  problems, especially at the later levels. Yet is wasn’t too difficult and when I lost at level I wasn’t punished. I kept the money I earned along with bonuses I purchased and simply started over.
